Marion Military Institute Rugby Club Joins Deep South
The administration of the Deep South Rugby Union is very pleased to welcome the Marion Military Institute (MMI) Rugby Club into the Deep South Rugby family.
Located in Marion, Alabama and founded in 1842, MMI has a rich tradition of preparing their students for successsful military and civilain career paths. MMI offers unique military training programs and is one of five Military Junior Colleges in the USA. The Deep South Rugby Union is pleased they have choosen to join our growing LAU.
Marion Military Institute will join the Deep South as a Men’s Collegiate Division III club, beginning matrix play in the Spring of 2009. Please help us in welcoming MMI to the Deep South Rugby Union and support them as they grow their rugby program. Thank you all for your part in building a better and more competitive Deep South.

Deep South Rising
The Deep South Rugby Union is pleased to announce the resurrection of the Deep South Men’s Senior Select Touring Side for the Fall 2008.
Due to both a critical mass of talented, dedicated players and the ambitious objectives of a reenergized governing body, the Deep South Rugby Union administration has gone forward with an initiative to bring organized elite level rugby back to the union.
Selectors for the squad are Trip McCormick of New Orleans RFC, Phil Dembowski of Battleship, and John Fontenelle of Baton Rouge RFC. Key dates are as follows:
Saturday, Nov. 1: One-day Selection Camp (New Orleans)
• 8:30-9 am: Sign-in
• 9 am-12 pm: Introduction/Skills Session
• 12-2 pm: Lunch/Systems and Patterns Session at NORFC Clubhouse
• 2:30-4:30 pm: Team Skills
• 5:30 pm: Scrimmage
Friday, Nov. 7: Trip-planning, team meeting (Mobile)
• 8 pm: BRIEF (1 hour max.) meeting at hotel by Battleship Park to discuss arrangements for Atlanta
Saturday, Dec. 6: (Atlanta, GA) **SEC Championship Game in Atlanta
• Match vs. Atlanta Renegades
• Match vs. Atlanta Old White
January (date TBA): (New Orleans)
• Match vs. Mystic River RFC (A&B)
Club coaches and administrators should contact Trip McCormick (504.289.4102; tmccormick@kingkrebs.com) with nominations for the November 1 camp. At-large players, please contact Trip directly (this system is not meant to be elitist in nature; it’s just much easier to organize if we can get a single list from each club). **Players MUST be available for Nov. 1 selection camp to be eligible**
The goal of the Deep South Rugby Union is, first and foremost, to put forth a truly representative side of the best talent on offer in the region. Every effort has been made, and will continue to be made, to ensure that any qualified player who is CIPP registered within the union have an opportunity to represent the Deep South.

Baton Rouge Men’s Rugby Club Joins Deep South
Mobile, Ala. -- It is with great pleasure that the administration of the Deep South Rugby Union welcomes the Baton Rouge Men’s Rugby Club back into the Deep South Rugby family. Baton Rouge is a highly competitive club, run by a quality administration and we are pleased they have chosen to return to the Deep South LAU.
Baton Rouge Rugby will join the Deep South as a Men’s Division II club, beginning Fall of 2008. With Baton Rouge coming on board to help the Deep South write a new chapter in Southern rugby, we look forward to a long and positive relationship.
